Data coverage
Equillis is built on open, police-recorded vehicle crime. Publication is a force-by-force process, so coverage is checked against the live dataset every time this page loads rather than being asserted in marketing copy. Where a force is behind, we say so and treat the gap as missing data — never as low risk.
How gaps are handled in scoring
- Areas covered by a lagging or non-publishing force are flagged in the product. A low score there means we do not have the records, not that the area is safe.
- The Equillis Risk Score is relative: a location is compared against the national distribution of exposure, so a force with a partial month does not artificially deflate its neighbours.
- When a force resumes publication its history is backfilled at the next monthly refresh and scores recalculate automatically — no manual intervention, and this page updates with it.

Records are sourced from the open UK police data release (data.police.uk) covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland, plus British Transport Police. Scotland is not included: Police Scotland does not publish vehicle-crime records into the open street-level dataset, and adding Scottish coverage is subject to an agreement with the vehicle-crime data holders for Scotland. Until then Scottish corridors are shown on the UK Threat Map as not covered and are never scored as low risk. Questions about coverage: Henry@equillis.com.
